Links: Religious Programs at Pender Correctional Institution
"Remember those in prison as if
you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you
yourselves were suffering."
Hebrews 13:3

In 2006 The Community Resource Council (CRC) of the Pender Correctional Institution began the process of building an adequate Worship Center for the inmates. The current 'chapel', a small classroom, is inadequate to meet the religious needs of the 678 inmates at the prison. The new Religious Services Center has been designed and approved to be built with construction estimated to begin in January, 2012. Because of church/state considerations the Department of Correction will not construct Religious service centers, but will allow community groups to do so. Thus, the CRC has enlisted the help of numerous groups, primarily churches and other religious organizations, to raise the funds to build the building. North Carolina Baptist Men have committed to enlist the volunteer labor to construct the building. |
